West Riding Girls Football League U13 Shield
Churwell Lions 6 - 3 Howden Clough
We progressed to the semi finals of the Shield with a victory over Howden Clough but we certainly made it difficult for ourselves at times.
Howden started the brighter of the 2 teams and Olivia Hughes had already had to make 2 important interceptions before they took the lead in the 15th minute with a well struck free kick. The goal finally brought us to life,Georgia and Nicole both battled well in midfield and Kristi and Amy both went close before Chelsea equalised with a low shot from a short corner.Jenny then seemed certain to score after being put through from Emily pass however a fine save from Howden’s keeper ensured we went in level at half time.
We started the second half much better than the first.Amy hit the post and Kristi outran the defence but shot wide.Having finally taken the lead through Jenny,we then conceded an equaliser almost immediately and found ourselves having to do the hard work again.Chelsea won a tackle on half way, exchanged passes with Kristi and then beat the keeper from close range and Jenny doubled the lead, again after good work from Kristi.
Howden refused to give up and took advantage of a loose ball to pull the score back to 4-3 on the hour.Lauren turned a long range effort away for a corner but with Ellie working tirelessly in defence and Georgia and Kristi continually causing problems up front,we began to take control.
Jenny beat 2 defenders to complete her hat trick with the goal of the match and Amy made the game safe in the final minute, cutting in from the left and beating the keeper at the near post.
Chelsea was voted Player of the Match
West Riding Girls Football League U13 Shield Semi -Final
Churwell Lions 6 - 0 Norristhorpe Bees
This was our best performance of the season so far and we couldn’t have chosen a more important game to do it in..
Jenny took less than a minute to open the scoring, when she was first to react to a loose ball in the box.Georgia shot just wide,Chelsea headed over the bar and the Norristhorpe keeper then did well to save at the Kristi’s feet as we totally dominated. The second actually came from a rare Norristhorpe attack.Lauren turned a shot away for a corner which Amy cleared and Jenny ran from the half way line and dribbled round the keeper to roll the ball into the empty net.Another pass from Amy found Jenny wide on the right and her square ball set up Ellie who curled the ball into the bottom corner to make it 3 - 0 at half time.
The move of the match put the game beyond doubt.Lauren cleared to Jenny who played the ball inside to Ellie who then played an inch perfect pass for Georgia to hit an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner.Norristhorpe responded with their best spell of the match but with Chelsea and Olivia outstanding in defence, they were restricted to hopeful long shots,a handful of corners and one break where Lauren raced out of her goal to clear the danger.
Georgia then scored her second, turning in the box to fire home.Amy hit the post and Nicole beat the keeper but shot inches wide before Chelsea completed the scoring, running out of defence, exchanging passes with Jenny and finishing from the edge of the box.
Georgia was voted Player of the Match
