Friendly games
Churwell Lions 1 – 2 Pannal Sports
After being given a bye in the first round of the West Riding Cup,we took on Pannal Sports, last years Harrogate & District League and Cup winners in a friendly.
Jenny and Kristi both went close early on before we fell behind midway through the first half when a free kick, which was only partially cleared to the edge of the box,was volleyed back in through a crowd of players into the corner of the net.
With Amy protecting the defence and Ellie covering the length of the pitch on the left hand side,Jenny and Kristi were able to constantly swap positions and cause problems up front and only a series of impressive saves from the Pannal keeper prevented the scores from being level at half time.
The second half started as the first had finished, with both sides battling for control of midfield and chances being created at each end.Amy had a long range effort turned around the post for a corner,Kristi shot just wide and having lost her marker to get free in the box, Ellie only just missed out on getting on the end of a cross that would have finished off a great team move.
The equaliser finally came when Kristi and Jenny chased down a long goal kick from Emily with Kristi sliding in to steer the ball into the net.We then had our best spell of the match,Chelsea and Olivia were the first to everything in defence,Jenny made a series of chances for herself and for what seems like the 176th game in a row,Chelsea got on the end of a near post corner only for the ball to go just the wrong side of the post.
Pannal were always a danger and with 5 minutes to go,their best move of the match led to the winner,a shot from close range which gave Emily no chance.
Ellie was voted player of the match by Pannal’s coach and as she put in her best performance for the club as an outfield player,it was a well deserved award. The entire team put in 100% effort however in a match that neither side deserved to lose.Pannal were probably the best team we have ever played and to run them so close is something that every player should be proud of.
Pannel Sport V. Churwell Lions Girls
This was Churwells first match of the year. And it was a good one.
In the first half Churwell started with some unusal tatics by putting people in places that they dont usually play in . Olivia Huges and Kristy Kay kept it strong in defence. The midfield players Amy Cauifield , Ellie Cammish and Georgia Huges tryed to get the ball to our lone striker Emily Marynic, who did her best to score a goal. It ended at half time 0-0.
In the second half the churwell coach put Chelsea Dyson in defence with Kirsty Kay and he put Jenny Moore up front. Churwell defense did the best to stop pannal scoring a goal. But pannal scored two goals. Chelsea Dyson tackled one of the pannal girls and stopped her scoring but she came off the worst covered head to toe in mud.
Then georgia huges scored her second goal of the season by doing a one two with Jenny Moore. Then Jenny Moore dribble past the defenders and scored a beauty of a goal.
The match ended as Pannel Sport 2 V. 2 Churwell Lions Girls.
